Samantha Josephson called an Uber on Friday around two o'clock in the morning after she broke up with her friend after going out in the city of Columbia in the US state of South Carolina, writes CNN.
A 21-year-old University of South Carolina student entered a black Chevrolet Impala thinking it was her transportation, Columbia Police Chief VH Holbrook said at a news conference.
About 14 hours later, hunters found her lifeless body in a field about 90 kilometers from the city, Holbrook added.
"What we know for sure is that she was waiting for Uber to come. We believe that she got into another car by mistake, thinking it was Uber," said the police chief.
He added that Nathaniel David Rowland, 24, was arrested on charges of kidnapping and murder in connection with the death of Samantha Josephson.
He also said that Samantha's blood was found in Rowland's car.
Rowland is being held in a prison in Colombia, according to CNN.
