The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, criticized today the President of Iran and the head of diplomacy for not implementing the agreement on the nuclear program as he wanted, the AP agency reported, adding that it is the first time the Ayatollah has criticized his officials amid tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Khamenei said this at a Ramadan lecture for young people, and hard-line currents in Iran have long believed that Iran has made too many concessions to the West.
The ayatollah, who has the final say in decision-making, criticized President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who are known as more moderate.
The AP agency did not specify what exactly Khamenei reproaches his officials, assessing that his criticism shows the growing influence of the hard current in Iran, a year after US President Donald Trump decided to withdraw the US from the international agreement on the nuclear program.
