Seven Chinese nationals have been arrested in Japan for what is believed to be smuggling record quantities of psychoactive substances via ship-to-ship transfers.
Tokyo police said today that seven Chinese nationals were arrested this Sunday for illegally possessing "large quantities" of the drug.
NHK television reported that the suspects allegedly smuggled almost one ton of amphetamines, worth $550 million. The drugs were seized on Monday in a record seizure in Japan.
The police discovered a boat on a beach without a crew, but with bags full of drugs.
The arrest of the Chinese is part of an investigation into an international drug smuggling ring following reports of suspicious vessels in the area.
