Ivan Đurašević from Budva was arrested in one of the largest seizures of cocaine in the history of the USA, in which the American authorities discovered 16,5 tons (15 metric tons) of this drug on the cargo ship "MSC Gajan" in the port of Philadelphia.
Federal indictments have been filed against two sailors who admitted they helped load cocaine onto a ship while it was at sea. AP refers to court documents in which it is written that the defendants are Ivan Đurašević and Fonofave Tijasage.
Federal agents found that they loaded cocaine from 14 boats with drugs that approached the cargo ship on two occasions, reports Tanjug.
US federal authorities seized cocaine with an estimated street value of more than one billion dollars in the Port of Philadelphia, the State Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania previously announced on Twitter.
“This is the largest drug seizure in the history of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The ship's crew members have been arrested and are facing federal charges, and the investigation is ongoing," the office tweeted.
"NBC News" previously, citing local police sources, reported that the street value of the drug was $750 million.
This television stated that the drugs, placed in seven shipping containers, were discovered late last night.
Investigators believe the cocaine was loaded onto the cargo ship MSC Gajan in the Bahamas or after the vessel left port in those islands.
The ship is said to have arrived in the US from Chile, via Panama and the Bahamas.
