American billionaire and registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein (66) pleaded not guilty in court today to charges related to human trafficking for providing sexual services, reports Tanjug.
He remains in custody at least until a bail hearing, which is scheduled for Thursday, AP reported.
Epstein was arrested over the weekend at the New York airport on his way back from Paris.
The prosecution pointed out that there is a very high risk that Epstein will escape by plane and that he should remain in custody until the trial begins.
As prosecutors pointed out, he has three active US passports and regularly travels in and out of the country by private jet.
Epstein is accused of creating and running a network that allowed him to exploit and sexually abuse dozens of underage girls from 2002 to 2005.
Epstein has already been convicted of sexually abusing minors, and he made a plea deal with the court and instead of the threatened life sentence, he was sentenced to 13 months in prison, then to pay the money to his victims and enter the register of sexual predators.
Some of the billionaire's victims were under the age of 14, and the illicit activities took place in his homes in New York and Florida.
As reported by the AP agency, Epstein was a friend of former US President Bill Clinton, British Prince Andrew and US President Donald Trump.
