The earthquake that struck the southern Philippines before dawn injured at least 25 residents and damaged several buildings.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that a 5,5-magnitude earthquake was registered this morning about seven kilometers southeast of the mining town of Carascala in Surigao del Sur province, and that it was also felt in distant provinces. Aftershocks were also registered.
A magnitude 5,0 to 5,9 earthquake is considered "moderate" and can damage poorly constructed buildings.
Annually, 1.000 to 1.500 earthquakes of this magnitude are registered in the world.
