Tens of thousands of protesters in Hong Kong have taken to the streets to demand the full withdrawal of the controversial extradition law and a full investigation into police violence at earlier protests.
The demonstrators focused on the behavior of the police, whose task was to control the mass protests that rock the semi-autonomous Chinese city and which often ended in violent confrontations with the police.
Protesters are demanding the establishment of an independent body to investigate police actions, including the firing of rubber bullets, tear gas and pepper spray.
There are videos showing police hitting unarmed protesters with batons and shields, Hina reports.
Millions of people began taking to the streets in early June to protest against an extradition bill that would have allowed Hong Kong residents to be extradited to other parts of China for trial.
They claim it would undermine the former British colony's judicial independence and expose people to the dangers of political indictments.
The government has temporarily withdrawn the law from the procedure, but the protesters are demanding its complete withdrawal and the resignation of Hong Kong Governor Carrie Lam.
Demonstrators complained that the police had shortened their planned route on Sunday to prevent them from reaching government buildings in front of which huge barricades had been erected.
