The United States announced, ahead of the 18th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, that it is imposing sanctions on a large number of groups it considers terrorist and their supporters, including the Palestinian group Hamas and Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
In a statement by US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, it is stated that "15 leaders, individuals and entities associated with groups such as Hamas, Al Qaeda, the Islamic State and Iran's Revolutionary Guards are targeted by sanctions", reports Reuters.
Mnuchin pointed out that Trump's modernized executive order to fight terrorism strengthens the powers of the US when the target of sanctions is the finances of terrorist groups and their leaders.
Sanctions mean that the assets of those they relate to in the US will be blocked, and US citizens are prohibited from doing business with those persons.
