At least 30 civilians were killed and 40 injured in Afghanistan in an attack by an American drone, which was aimed at the objectives of the jihadists of the Islamic State, officials there announced today.
Civilians died in the mountainous area of Wazir Tangi in Nangahar province in eastern Afghanistan, Radio Free Europe (RSE) reported.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense and US officials in Kabul confirmed the drone strike, but did not provide details.
"US forces conducted a drone strike against Islamic State targets in Nangarhar. We have been made aware of allegations that non-combatants have been killed, and we are working with local officials to establish the facts," said Sonny Ledgett, a spokesman for US forces in Afghanistan.
The US has 14.000 troops in Afghanistan.
