Today in the United Nations, Syria requested the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces from its territory, stating that it reserves the right to take measures if they remain.
The head of Syrian diplomacy, Walid al-Moalem, said at the session of the UN General Assembly that the US and Turkey continue their "illegal military presence in the north of Syria".
"All foreign forces operating in our territory without our approval are occupying forces and should withdraw immediately," Al-Moalem said.
Over the course of more than eight years, the civil war in Syria has involved numerous foreign armies and thousands of foreign fighters.
Most of Syria's territory has been returned to government forces, but rebels and extremists still hold Idlib province in the country's northwest, as well as the oil-rich northeast, which is controlled by US-backed Kurdish forces.
