The US Congress will make efforts to make Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan pay dearly for his offensive in Syria against the Kurdish forces, allies of Washington, warned today the influential Republican Senator Lindsay Graham.
"Pray for our Kurdish allies who have been shamefully abandoned by the Trump administration," he tweeted.
"I will make efforts in Congress to make Erdogan pay for it very dearly," added this senator who usually supports US President Donald Trump.
Today, Erdogan announced on Twitter that the Turkish military operation in Syria, which they called "Peaceful Spring", had begun and wrote that the goal of the operation was to eradicate the "threat of terror".
Earlier, Turkish television reported that Turkish planes bombed Syrian Kurdish positions across the border from Turkey.
Kurdish forces spokesman Mustafa Bali said today that Turkish warplanes have begun attacking "civilian areas" in northern Syria and that this has caused panic among people in the area.
The way for the Turkish offensive was opened when the US President announced that the US military would withdraw from the area.
