French President Emmanuel Macron spoke on the phone with US President Donald Trump about the Turkish offensive in Syria and warned him that the consequence could be the revival of the activities of the so-called Islamic State.
As stated in the announcement of Macron's cabinet, he emphasized that it is necessary to stop the Turkish offensive as a matter of urgency.
The statement did not specify whether Macron called on US forces to intervene, AP notes.
Macron pointed to the need to stop "any resurgence of Islamic State in the region" and to support Kurdish forces, which have helped the US-led military coalition retake territory in Syria and Iraq from Islamic State extremists.
