The Syrian army entered the Kurdish city of Kobani in the north of Syria, on the border with Turkey, Al Majadin TV reported today.
That channel states that the Syrian army is deploying forces in Kobani, about 150 kilometers from Aleppo, and in its suburbs, reports TASS.
Al Majadin channel reported earlier today that Syrian forces entered the city of Raqqa, also in northern Syria, and established several checkpoints.
On October 9, Turkey launched the "Peace Source" military offensive against Kurdish fighters in northern Syria, after the US, an ally of the Kurds, withdrew from the area. The aim of that Turkish operation is to create a buffer zone to protect the Turkish border.
Seeking a new protector after the US withdrawal, Kurdish authorities in northern Syria reached an agreement with the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose forces began entering Kurdish-controlled areas on Sunday to protect them from the Turks.
