The Syrian Democratic Forces, which includes Kurdish fighters, announced today that they have continued operations against the jihadists of the Islamic State in eastern Syria, where they cooperate with the international coalition led by the US.
"We have restarted military operations against the cells of the Islamic State in Deir Ezzor. Our forces are cooperating with the forces of the coalition," the commander of the Kurdish forces, Mazlum Abdi, told French Press.
Abdi added that the presence of US forces is important for the balance of power in Syria.
"We want the Americans to have a certain role in Syria, so that the Russians or someone else does not have a monopoly on the ground. It is in our interest that the American forces remain in order to achieve a balance," Abdi said.
