Hong Kong police today threatened to respond with live ammunition if protesters use lethal weapons and commit other violent acts.
In a statement, the police called on the protesters to stop attacking police officers with deadly weapons and added that otherwise they would respond with force, using live ammunition.
Earlier today, a police officer was shot by an arrow when police used tear gas and water cannons in an attempt to disperse protesters occupying the university campus.
In the photos, published on the Facebook page of the police, it can be seen that the arrow hit the police officer in the lower leg, after which he was taken to the hospital.
We warn that the post published on Facebook by the Hong Kong police is disturbing.
The protesters refused to retreat, even though trucks with water cannons in an attempt to get closer to the protesters drove over the bricks they had placed.
Protesters began to retreat towards the Polytechnic University building only as night fell, fearing that they would be trapped as police fired tear gas and approached them from the opposite side.
Protesters shot arrows and Molotov cocktails at the police from the roof of the university where they had closed themselves, reports Reuters.
Police used tear gas in other parts of Hong Kong as well, and in some districts there were direct clashes with protesters.
