In the US Congress, the key phase of starting the procedure for the impeachment of US President Donald Trump due to the alleged attempt to involve Ukraine and the election process begins today.
The first impeachment hearings against the Republican president begin before the House Judiciary Committee, which is led by Democrats.
The committee is tasked with deciding whether to recommend the impeachment of President Trump to the lower house of Congress.
As reported by "Reuters", the members of the Committee, headed by Democrat Jerold Nadler, will listen to the testimony of four eminent law professors about violations that could lead to the impeachment of the President.
Under the US Constitution, impeachable acts are "high crimes and misdemeanors" committed by the president and other government officials.
The Committee is expected to hold several sessions, as well as to examine the findings of the Intelligence Committee's investigators regarding the impeachment, reports Tanjug.
The Committee's findings will be sent to the full House of Representatives, in which the Democrats have a majority, for a vote, which could happen by the end of the year.
Then comes the consideration in the upper chamber, the Senate, in which Trump's Republicans have a majority.
