US President Donald Trump today praised the "excellent cooperation" with Russia that made it possible to thwart the attack in St. Petersburg.
"Russian President (Vladimir) Putin called me to thank the US for information about the intention of a terrorist attack in beautiful St. Petersburg," Trump said on Twitter from Florida, where he is spending the New Year holidays.
The US president added that the Russians were able to arrest the suspects quickly, so that many lives were spared. It's "great and important coordination," Trump added.
Putin thanked earlier today thanked his American colleague for the information that enabled Russia to thwart attacks on its territory, the Kremlin announced. Russian media reported that the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) on Friday arrested two Russian citizens suspected of preparing an attack in St. Petersburg.
The FSB previously stated that the arrest was carried out on the basis of information received from US authorities.
The US and Russia cooperate in the fight against terrorism, even though the two countries have opposing views on many international issues.
