A little earlier, agencies reported that a strong earthquake of similar strength hit the Russian region of Kamchatka.
The epicenter was in the southern state of Oaxaca, near Salino Cruz, Reuters reports.
The earthquake was also felt in Mexico City, but there are no reports of possible casualties or material damage.
The US Geological Survey measured the earthquake with a magnitude of 5,3.
