Fierce fighting between Syrian forces and rebels continued today on the outskirts of Eastern Ghouta, which has been besieged since 2013 and on Sunday was the target of an attack by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces, the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced.
In those battles, 13 members of the Syrian forces and six rebels of the Jaih al-Islam group, which is the most active in the area, died.
The fighting is taking place despite the UN Security Council resolution passed last night on an immediate ceasefire in all of Syria.
The Observatory stated that these were the biggest clashes since the beginning of February.
More than 500 civilians have been killed in seven days of fighting in Eastern Ghouta, a rebel enclave near Damascus.
"The number of airstrikes has decreased, but clashes are now taking place on the ground," the observatory added.
