At least nine people died and 37 were injured in the earthquake in Turkey, not far from the border with Iran, announced Health Minister Fahretin Kodza.
Turkish authorities previously announced that three children were among the dead in the 5,7 magnitude earthquake.
In Iran, the earthquake hit 43 villages in the mountainous area near the border, when 75 people were injured, six of whom were hospitalized.
Rescue teams have been dispatched to threatened areas.
The epicenter of the earthquake was not far from the Iranian village of Habashe Olija, less than ten kilometers from the border with Turkey.
The earthquake was recorded around nine o'clock local time, at a depth of five kilometers.
