The acting US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia assessed that China and Russia are trying to threaten global security with disinformation.
During a teleconference held on Wednesday on global cooperation, the spread of misinformation and the new coronavirus pandemic, Philip Ricker said that the two countries are distracting from the search for a solution to the pandemic.
Riker, speaking about the influence of Russia and China in the area of the Western Balkans, said that the USA noticed even before the pandemic that these two countries were trying to spread their influence by spreading misinformation.
Special envoy and coordinator of the Center for Global Coordination, Lea Gabrijel, believes that Russian propaganda spreads in environments where there is no full information and half-knowledge reigns, which facilitates the imposition of a distorted interpretation of the real situation.
When it comes to China, Gabriel says that the task of Chinese propaganda is to convince the world that the pandemic did not come from China at all, thus promoting the false theory of an American conspiracy against China, i.e. that the virus was introduced to China during the visit of American soldiers to Wuhan last fall.
"The intent, obviously, is to damage America's reputation around the world," she said.
