The mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, today called for the withdrawal of military units from the US capital, which were sent from other states to protest against police brutality and racism.
"We want the troops out of Washington," Bowser said at a press conference, according to Reuters.
The governor of that American state, Jay Inslee, ordered the activation of the National Guard on Monday after vandalism and looting of shops and shopping centers in several cities, during protests over the death of African-American George Floyd during police arrest.
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he does not believe that it will be necessary for the troops of the US Army to be engaged in connection with the protests that are taking place across the United States of America.
Trump previously announced that the military could be deployed if states are unable to stop violent protests.
