The United States of America (US) will "continue in the coming months to reduce" its military presence in Iraq directed against the jihadist Islamic State.
This was announced by the American and Iraqi governments after the first round of "strategic dialogue".
"In light of the significant progress made in eradicating the threat of the Islamic State, the US will continue to reduce its forces in Iraq in the coming months," the joint statement said.
Details about the number of soldiers and the withdrawal schedule are not provided.
The USA and Iraq started the long-awaited strategic talks on bilateral relations yesterday.
The priority for Washington is the question of the future of American forces in Iraq, while for Baghdad the focus is on the economic crisis.
The talks, which began via video link, are expected to last several months.
Relations between Iraq and the US have improved since Mustafa al-Kadimi became the head of the Iraqi government in May.
