More than 1.000 people have died from the coronavirus in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Health announced today, writes Free Europe.
According to the ministry, 1.011 people have died from the coronavirus, while 132.048 have been infected, so Saudi Arabia is the most affected Gulf country, although it has recently started easing isolation measures.
More than 4.000 infected people were registered today, the second day in a row, the authorities said.
The intensive care units in Riyadh and Jeddah are overcrowded, so there is a lot of pressure on the health system, medical sources told Agence France-Presse.
At the beginning of the month, the authorities announced the closure of Jeddah again ahead of the annual gathering of Muslims in Mecca.
A curfew from 15:XNUMX p.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX a.m., the suspension of prayers in mosques and working from home have been reintroduced to stop the spread of the virus.
The authorities have not yet decided whether there will be a Hajj in Mecca this year, which is at the end of July this year. Last year, around 2,5 million believers gathered from all over the world.
To date, at least 433.493 people have died worldwide from the coronavirus, more than 7.928.590 have been infected, while at least 3.574.300 people have recovered from the disease.
