Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed the upcoming summit between the US and North Korea and particularly pointed to China's contribution to reducing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
"Russia welcomes the planned US-North Korea summit and points to China's great contribution to resolving the crisis on the Korean Peninsula," Putin said at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Qingdao, China.
He added that Russia "looks positively at the efforts of Pyongyang, Seoul and Washington to achieve a comprehensive solution to the crisis through negotiations."
Putin recalled that Russia and China emphasized the need to reduce tensions through talks.
US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will meet on Tuesday, June 12, in Singapore, and the main topic of their talks will be the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, that is, North Korea's abandonment of its nuclear program and ballistic tests.
