Biden: Trump's strategy is to raise the white flag; Meadows: The US will not control the coronavirus pandemic

Democratic presidential candidate Joseph Biden today accused the President of the United States of America (USA) Donald Trump of surrendering to the coronavirus epidemic, after the statement of White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows that the government will not strive to "control" it.

"It's not Meadows' fault," Biden said.

"It's a fair observation about President Trump's strategy since the beginning of the crisis: to raise the white flag of defeat and hope that if we ignore it, the virus will go away. But that's not the case," Biden concluded.

Meadows said today that the US "will not control the pandemic" of the coronavirus, after announcing that Vice President Mike Pence's environment was infected with the virus.

"Here's what we're going to do. We're not going to control the pandemic, we're going to control it so that we have a vaccine, therapy and other means to mitigate" the disease, Trump's chief of staff, Mark Meadows, told the American television network CNN (CNN).

Meadows added that the virus is contagious just like the flu.

Kamala Harris, who is the Democratic candidate for the position of vice president of the USA, immediately criticized the Trump administration.

"They admitted failure. It's the biggest administration failure in American history," she said.

Trump has been criticized by many for minimizing the seriousness of the coronavirus epidemic and often comparing the virus to the seasonal flu.

The American president himself was infected in early October.

He was in the hospital for three days and after his recovery he claims that he was cured and that he gained immunity thanks to the experimental therapy.

Now he is saying again that the pandemic will disappear, even though the USA has registered the highest number of deaths from the corona virus in the world - almost 225.000.

Mike Pence's chief of staff, Mark Short, is also infected with the coronavirus.

He and two other associates were infected over the weekend.

Other associates and employees in the White House were also infected when Trump was infected.

However, Pence, who heads the crisis headquarters against the coronavirus, has announced that he will continue his election campaign, while Trump has also been visiting places in recent days before the presidential election scheduled for November 3.
