US President Donald Trump said tonight that his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani is infected with the coronavirus.
Giuliani, who has been touring the US for more than a month to challenge the presidential election, has been seen at meetings without a protective mask.
"Rudy Giuliani, by far the best mayor in the history of New York, and who works tirelessly to expose by far the most corrupt election in US history, has tested positive for the Chinese virus," Trump said on Twitter, using the term "Chinese virus" instead of the coronavirus, which has previously caused outrage. Giuliani (76), who a few hours earlier gave a live interview to Fox News, did not show symptoms of the coronavirus.
Trump's lawyer has been to Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Washington, D.C., among other places, since Democrat Joseph Biden declared victory in the Nov. 3 presidential election.
The US judiciary has so far rejected many appeals by Trump's legal team about alleged irregularities in the election.
Trump himself did not wear a mask at a rally in Georgia on Saturday, his first rally since the election.
Most of the participants in the rally were also without masks.
The Republican billionaire was infected with the coronavirus in early October, as were his wife Melania and several members of his entourage.
After a three-day hospitalization, Trump returned to the White House before intensively continuing his election campaign a few days later.
