Indonesian authorities have found black boxes and parts of a passenger plane that crashed on Saturday shortly after takeoff from Jakarta airport with 62 passengers and crew on board.

The head of the civil aviation service, Hadi Tidzhanto, said that broken parts of the plane, remains of passengers and clothes were found.

The turning point in the search for the Srivijaya company plane was when the sonar from the warship detected the plane's locator signal at a place that was previously suspected to be the crash site.

Nothing is yet known about the causes of the plane crash, which none of the passengers and crew members survived, reports AP.

"On behalf of all the citizens of Indonesia, I want to express my deepest condolences on this tragedy. We pray that we find a survivor," said Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The first to report the accident were fishermen who were fishing in the waters of the Java Sea and who heard an explosion yesterday around 14:30 p.m., and then saw a large column of water and a wave heading towards them.

"We thought it was a bomb, or a tsunami because of the large column of water that rose above the surface of the sea. We were shocked when we later saw parts of the wrecked plane," said one of the fishermen.

There were 62 people on board, including seven children and three babies. All were Indonesian, officials said.

The authorities immediately opened two crisis centers, at the airport in Jakarta and at the port.

The president of Srivijaya Airlines stated that the 26-year-old plane was technically sound and that the flight was delayed due to bad weather conditions and not due to problems with the aircraft's health.
