Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced that he has tested positive for covid-19, that he has mild symptoms and that he is optimistic.
"I regret to inform you that I am infected with Covid-19. The symptoms are mild but I am already under medical treatment," the 67-year-old president wrote on his Facebook page last night.
Lopes Obrador, who has retained most of the activities during the pandemic, has assigned Interior Minister Olga Sánchez to replace him at daily press conferences from Monday to Friday at 7.00:XNUMX a.m.
The president said that he will conduct state affairs from the national palace and stated that, among other things, he will talk by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin today.
Obrador had three public activities during the weekend.
He suffers from heart problems for which he was admitted to a private hospital in 2013 and also has hypertension.
Other heads of state were infected with the corona virus, such as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the presidents of Brazil, the USA and France Jair Bolsonaro, Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron.
