A new American study says that people who moved last fall because of the epidemic cited declining income as the main reason for moving, while those who moved last spring cited fear of contracting the coronavirus as the reason for moving.
A survey conducted in November, the results of which were published on Thursday by the Pew Research Center, shows that five percent of adults in the US have moved from one place to another due to COVID-19, while in the previous survey in June there were fewer, three percent.
A third of those who moved due to COVID-19 in November cited financial reasons, such as job loss, while in June there were half as many - 18 percent.
Equally, the percentage of respondents who said that the reason for moving was the fear of contracting the coronavirus decreased from June to November from 28 to 14 percent.
About 12 percent of those who moved during the epidemic and were surveyed in November said that the reason for this was that there were too many restrictions due to sanitary measures where they lived, and this question was not asked in June.
The share of those who moved with their families during the epidemic dropped from 61 to 42 percent, which could be explained by the reduction in the ability to buy apartments and houses and the declining ability to earn from renting out their own real estate, the research says.
People aged 18 to 29 were the most likely candidates to move, according to both surveys, and in the November survey, 11 percent said they had done so.
More Latinos and blacks than whites said they moved because of the virus, a November survey found.
In that survey, nine percent of Hispanic adults, seven percent of black adults and just four percent of white adults said they moved because of the pandemic.
Pew conducted a survey of 12.648 US adults from November 18-29, and the results were compared to results from a survey conducted June 4-10, 2020.
