Two Danish journalists of the National Geographic newspaper were stabbed in Gabon's capital, Libreville, and one is in critical condition, the Gabonese government announced today.
Defense Minister Etienne Massard Makaga said the 53-year-old attacker was quickly arrested and shouted "Allah Akbar" (God is great) during the attack.
The attacker told police he attacked journalists in retaliation for US attacks against Muslims.
The journalists were attacked at the market in the capital, popular among tourists, according to the AP agency.
This is the first attack of this kind against journalists in the West African country, where Muslims and Christians live in harmony.
Gabon, an oil-rich country, is home to the remaining population of forest elephants.
