Egypt: The court confirmed the seizure of the ship that blocked the Suez Canal

An Egyptian court confirmed today the seizure of a ship that recently blocked the Suez Canal and dismissed the ship's owner's appeal.

The authorities in Egypt seized the huge ship "Ever Given", which blocked maritime traffic on the Suez Canal for a week in March, stopping traffic worth several billion dollars.

The Suez Canal Authority said the ship would not be allowed to leave the country until compensation was paid.

The management asked for compensation of 916 million dollars.

As long as four football fields, the freighter carrying cargo between Asia and Europe ran aground in March in the narrow man-made channel that separates mainland Africa from the Sinai Peninsula.

The ship stopped the movement through the Suez Canal, where more than 10 percent of international maritime trade passes.

More than 300 ships were waiting at the two ends of the channel that connects the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
