The Russian Embassy in the USA today denied any involvement of Moscow in the cyber attack that paralyzed one of the largest distributors of petroleum products in the USA.
US President Joe Biden said yesterday that he has indications that a criminal group based in Russia is responsible for the cyber attack on the main American company for the distribution of oil products Colonial Pipeline (Colonial Pipeline), and did not directly accuse the Kremlin of this.
Biden said there was no evidence of Russian state involvement in the cyberattack "at this stage," but added that since the criminal group is based in Russia, Russian authorities "have some responsibility."
"Russia does not carry out malicious activities in cyberspace," the Russian embassy in the US announced today on its Facebook page and also condemned the baseless statements of some journalists who accused Moscow of the attack.
The embassy added that Russia has always advocated a professional dialogue with the US on international cyber security issues.
The USA has accused the Darkside group, which appeared last year and specializes in ransomware attacks on medium and large companies, for the attack on the main fuel distributor in the USA, the Colonial Pipeline company. She asks for money to unblock their systems.
Along the way, the group steals the victims' confidential data, which is mostly located in Western countries, and threatens to publish it if the ransom is not paid.
