Global eradication of the coronavirus is currently not a reasonable goal, said David Nabaro, the World Health Organization's (WHO) special envoy for the corona virus.
"Humanity will have to learn to live with this virus, preventing it from breaking out suddenly and causing outbreaks of disease. Eradication is not a reasonable goal for the world right now," said Dr. Nabaro in an interview with "Sky News".
He added that reports of the Nepalese variant of the virus are being studied.
"Every time it suddenly erupts, it raises the thought in one's mind that a new variant might appear. That would not be surprising."
"The virus is not going away anytime soon"
Nabaro said that this will be "the pattern in the future and that the virus will not disappear soon, but variants will appear", reports Hina.
Many observers warn of unequal access to the vaccine in rich and poor countries, which worsens and prolongs the pandemic that has claimed more than 3.5 million lives so far.
The heads of the WHO, the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank recently called on world leaders to make a new commitment and stand up for a more equitable distribution of vaccines, in order to succeed in curbing the pandemic.
