Tehran announced today that the US government has seized the domains of several media portals linked to the Iranian authorities, under unclear circumstances.
Iran's state agency IRNA reported that the US Department of Justice seized the web domains of several portals.
One of them, the Al Masirah satellite channel portal, which is behind Yemen's Iran-linked Houthi rebels, has acknowledged the seizure of its domain by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The Houthis stated that the site was shut down without warning and added that they will continue their mission "to oppose American and Israeli acts of piracy by all means."
The message states that the sites were seized "as part of a security operation" by three US government agencies, one of which is the FBI.
US authorities have so far not announced the seizure of the sites' web domains, which occurred at a time of heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran over the 2015 international nuclear deal between Iran and major powers.
Newly elected Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi yesterday rejected the possibility of meeting with US President Joseph Biden or negotiating Tehran's missile program or Iran's disputed support for regional armed groups.
Raisi, a protégé of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, strongly hinted at how Iran will treat other countries ahead of the expected new phase of negotiations to revive the 2015 international nuclear agreement between Tehran and major powers.
