The Petroleos Mexicanos company said it had sent firefighting boats.
It was stated that no one was injured in the incident at the Ku-Malob-Zap well, and that the gas leak was stopped after a few hours.
A fire on the surface of the ocean west of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula was extinguished early Friday, the state oil company "Pemex" announced, blaming a gas leak from an underwater pipeline as the cause of the fire, writes B92.
It is not known how much damage has been done to the environment.
