At least five people were killed and at least 15 were injured in a large explosion that occurred this morning in the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu, during the morning rush hour, eyewitnesses reported.
The extremist group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the explosion.
An official of the emergency service confirmed that five people were killed, and the service announced that at least 15 injured people were rushed to the hospital.
The explosion happened near the school.
The al-Shabaab group, in a statement carried by its Andalus radio, said that the target of the attack was Western officials who were being escorted by a convoy of African Union peacekeepers.
An eyewitness, however, told the AP agency that a private security company was providing security for the officials and that he saw four security personnel wounded.
The al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab group claimed responsibility for several attacks in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
