The Japanese billionaire who spent 12 days on the International Space Station returned to Earth today, the Russian space agency Roskosmos announced.

Yusaku Maezawa, the 46-year-old billionaire, his assistant Jozo Hinoro and Russian astronaut Alexander Misurkin parachuted into the Kazakh steppe at around 03.13 GMT.

"The tourist flight of the Soyuz MS-20 spacecraft has been completed," according to the Roscosmos website.

Two Japanese are the first tourists who paid for the trip independently. It is the first tourist visit to the space station since 2009.
