The World Economic Forum (WEF) is postponing its traditional annual gathering in the Swiss ski resort of Davos, citing uncertainty about the spread of the micron variant of the coronavirus.
"The current conditions of the pandemic make it extremely complex to hold a physical meeting in Davos," the organization wrote on its website.
The annual gathering was supposed to take place from January 17 to 21, reports SEEbiz.
"Guidelines for the preparation of the meeting are given by an expert advisor in close cooperation with the Swiss government at all levels," the announcement states.
Now the organizers plan to hold this year's gathering in the summer of next year, reports SEEbiz.
According to the website, the title of the annual meeting for next year is Working together, restoring trust and for the first time world leaders should have sustainable growth on the agenda.
The forum in Davos has been held since 1971, according to the idea of founder Klaus Schwab, and brings together leading people from politics, economics, science, and art from all continents, along with various world and non-governmental organizations, in order to "improve the state of the world" by exchanging fresh ideas and opinions.
