Gebrejezus: Next year must be the end of the pandemic

Next year must be the end of the global covid-19 pandemic, said today the Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Gebrejezus, at the last press conference of the year on the coronavirus.

He pointed out that he believes in this because after two years of experience, "we have come to know the virus very well and we have the means to fight it," Politiko reported.

Projections by the World Health Organization, said Gebrejezus, show that by the end of the first quarter of next year, vaccines will be provided for all adult citizens of the world, as well as booster doses for risk groups, reports N1.

To overcome the pandemic, however, the most important thing is that we use the weapons we have effectively and that we take care of equality, because if the whole world is not vaccinated, I do not believe that we will get out of this situation, said the head of the WHO.

What worries me is whether we will have the strength to end the pandemic, and I believe we will, said Marija Van Kerhove, who heads the WHO team to fight the pandemic.

She pointed out that WHO experts are still monitoring the data in order to determine whether the micron strain is as dangerous as the previous one, especially the delta, adding that for now it is not possible to draw a completely reliable conclusion about it.
