North Korea has continued to develop its nuclear and ballistic missile programs, as well as the ability to produce parts of nuclear devices in violation of United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions, UN experts said in a new report.
In January, North Korea accelerated tests and demonstrations of new short- and possibly intermediate-range missiles, which use both ballistic and guidance technologies, as well as liquid and solid propellants.
In a summary of the report, experts say a hypersonic guidance warhead and a maneuverable re-entry vehicle may have been tested.
North Korea has also demonstrated increased capabilities for rapid deployment, wide mobility on land and sea, and to improve the resilience of its missile forces.
Pyongyang uses cyber attacks on cryptocurrency assets to fund its programs and continues to seek material and technology abroad for its weapons.
North Korea has launched various weapons systems in recent months and threatened to lift a four-year moratorium on more serious weapons tests such as nuclear explosions.
January saw a record nine missile launches and tests of a hypersonic missile it is developing and a submarine-launched missile.
The UN initially imposed sanctions on North Korea after its first nuclear test in 2006 and tightened them in response to its continued testing and increasingly sophisticated nuclear and ballistic programs.
