The US-backed Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said they had recaptured Syria's largest oil field from Islamic State.
The SDF, which is in a race with Syrian government forces to take over parts of the oil-rich Deir al-Zor province, says it is in full control of the Omar oil field.
The opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said pro-government forces had withdrawn from the area surrounding the field after an armed attack by Islamic State extremists.
The SDF says government forces are three kilometers away from the field.
The Islamic State has lost most of the territory it controlled in Syria and neighboring Iraq.
