Two policemen were killed and several people were wounded in a terrorist attack in the Israeli city of Hadera, during the visit of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to that country and the Israeli-Arab summit. The attackers were killed.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, according to a statement published on the IS Telegram account, Reuters reports.
The two attackers in Hadera, a town about 50 kilometers north of Tel Aviv, are Israeli citizens of Arab descent and sympathizers of the group, Israeli security officials said.
"We condemn today's terrorist attack in Hadera, Israel. Such senseless acts of violence and murder have no place in society. We stand with our Israeli partners and send our condolences to the families of the victims," US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken wrote on Twitter.
Two armed attackers were killed by police officers who were having dinner in a nearby restaurant.
"Fortunately, our officers were able to neutralize the attackers and prevent a larger terrorist attack," national police spokesman Eli Levi told Israel's Khan television.
The attack came five days after a man killed at least four Israelis in a knife attack, before being shot dead by a bystander.
