Iran's Revolutionary Guard has announced that it will accelerate its ballistic missile program despite pressure from the US and the European Union to suspend it, the "Tasnim" news agency reported.
"Iran's ballistic missile program will expand and continue at an even greater speed in response to Trump's hostile approach to this revolutionary organization (the Guards)," the Guards said in a statement published by Tasnim.
The Trump administration introduced new unilateral sanctions due to Iran's program and called on Tehran not to develop missiles capable of carrying nuclear bombs, Tanjug reports.
Iran has announced that it has no such plans, but continues to develop its missile defense capabilities, reports Reuters.
"Improving Iran's defense force remains our highest priority," said Guard Commander Ali Jafari.
The Iranian Guard also states that the imposition of sanctions and the hostile approach of "the apostate and brutal president (USA) shows the failure of America and the bad policy of the Zionist regime (Israel) in the region."
"More determined and stronger than ever, the Guard will continue to defend Iran and its interests," the statement concluded.
