The man who was arrested today for attacking a subway train in New York with a firearm on Wednesday and injuring ten people, has been charged with terrorism and faces life in prison.
Frank R. James (62) was detained on the street in Manhattan after he called the police by himself, told where he was and asked them to come and arrest him, said the police officers who detained him.
Earlier, a police official told AP that someone recognized him and reported him.
The African-American previously posted videos on social media in which he said the US was racist, overrun with violence and criticized New York City Mayor Eric Adams. He also talked about his struggle with mental illness.
He set off smoke bombs in a crowded subway car and then fired at least 33 shots from a handgun, police said.
Five of the ten injured are in critical condition, and another ten subway passengers were treated for smoke inhalation and injuries in the commotion.
The gunman fled Wednesday during the chaos after the attack in the subway, but left behind many clues and items, including a gun bought at a pawn shop and the key to a van he rented, on the basis of which he was identified and found.
The police say that there are no indications that he is a member of a terrorist organization, and the motive for his attack is not yet known.
