Rescuers pulled 11 bodies from the ruins of a ten-story building in Iran, and it is feared that there could be more victims because a large number of people remained trapped.
At least 39 people were injured, most of them lightly, officials said earlier.
A ten-story building under construction collapsed yesterday in the Iranian city of Abadan.
Parts of the building fell on nearby shops and cars.
An angry crowd of citizens beat Abadan Mayor Hossein Hamidpour after the collapse, according to the ILNA news agency.
Police later arrested the mayor and nine other people. Earlier it was announced that the owner of the building and the head of the construction site were arrested, but the media later reported that the two were among the victims, although this was not officially confirmed.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi sent his condolences and appealed to local authorities to investigate the case.
