The United States of America (USA) has announced new sanctions against 29 individuals and 70 Russian companies linked to the Kremlin's defense industry, as punishment for Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Among the sanctioned companies are state-owned Rostec (Rostec), the state-owned defense conglomerate, and its affiliated companies.
The move came in conjunction with the announcement by the Group of Seven most industrialized countries in the world (G7) to ban the import of Russian gold and limit the price of Russian oil.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said the sanctions would degrade Russian President Vladimir Putin's capabilities and make his war against Ukraine more difficult.

Today, the USA and Spain signed a joint declaration condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The declaration states that the Russian invasion has "fundamentally changed the global strategic environment", and that Russian aggression is "the most direct threat to transatlantic security and global stability since the end of the Cold War".
The two countries also highlighted their partnership in the NATO alliance and expressed their commitment to safe and orderly migration.
The declaration states that the US and Spain will work to strengthen legal migration routes, especially in the Caribbean and Latin America.
It is added that the countries recognize the importance of cooperation on the issue of "irregular" migration from North Africa, which represents a major problem for Spain.
