Biden's doctor: The president is recovering well from the coronavirus

The doctor of US President Joseph Biden announced today that Biden is recovering well from the coronavirus.

"The president is responding to therapy as we expected," said Dr. Kevin O'Connor.

Biden was prescribed paxlovid, a drug that reduces the possibility of developing a severe form of covid-19.

O'Connor added that Biden still has a sore throat and that other symptoms, including a cough, runny nose and body aches, have "reduced significantly."

White House covid-19 coordinator Ashish Jha said Biden was infected with the BA.5 variant of the omicron strain.

"I spoke with his team last night. He felt good. He had a good day yesterday. The president is recovering well and we expect it to continue," said Dža.

Biden tested positive for the coronavirus on Thursday.

Before he got sick, there were 17 people in close contact with him.

Dza said that so far none of them have been found to be infected with the coronavirus after testing.
