An earthquake measuring 7,6 on the Richter scale struck western Mexico on Monday, September 19, and there are no reports of damage so far.
It happened after 13 p.m. local time and triggered an earthquake alarm in the country's capital.
The Mexican Seismological Agency reported the magnitude as 7,4 on the Richter scale, while the US Geological Survey estimated the magnitude at 7,6.
The epicenter was 59 kilometers south of Coalcomán in the state of Michoacán on the Pacific coast, according to Mexican seismologists.
Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum said there were currently no reports of damage in the capital.
The quake alarms came less than an hour after alarms were sounded across the country to mark the anniversaries of major earthquakes, which occurred on the same date in 1985 and 2017.
Thousands of people died in the 1985 earthquake, and more than 350 in the 2017 earthquake.
