New strong earthquake in Mexico, buildings are shaking

A magnitude 6,8 earthquake hit Mexico today, a few days after a strong earthquake that killed two people and damaged hundreds of buildings.

Residents of the capital, Mexico City, took to the streets after buildings shook and sirens sounded, Reuters reports.

Mayor Claudia Scheinbaum said that so far there are no reports of material damage.

The epicenter of the earthquake, whose intensity was initially estimated by the US Geological Survey at seven degrees, was at a depth of 27,7 kilometers.

Two people died and ten were injured in a powerful 7,6 magnitude earthquake that hit the west coast of Mexico on Monday.

That earthquake occurred on a day when Mexico was hit by two earthquakes in the past.

Several thousand people lost their lives in the devastating earthquake on September 19, 1985, while 2017 people died in the earthquake that hit Mexico on the same date in 350.
